Step-by-Step Printer Setup

Welcome to your new printer! Proper physical setup is crucial for long-term reliability. Follow these essential steps to correctly unbox, position, physically connect, and power up your new device without risking hardware damage.

Carefully remove the printer from the box by lifting it from the base. Do not lift by the paper tray or scanner lid. Place it on a flat, sturdy surface away from direct sunlight and dust. Peel off all the blue/orange packing tape and protective plastic from the outside. Crucially: Open the ink cartridge access door and remove the cardboard or plastic restraints from inside the printer carriage, as leaving these in can cause immediate mechanical failure upon boot.

Plug the provided power cord directly into the back of the printer and the other end directly into a wall outlet. Avoid using surge protectors or power strips during initial setup as they can sometimes prevent the printer from drawing enough power for the initial initialization cycle. Press the power button to turn it on. Wait for the initial mechanical setup to finish—the printer will make significant noise for up to 2 minutes as it primes the ink system.

Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to move to the center and stop completely. Remove the new cartridges from their packaging, touching only the plastic body. Warning: Never touch the copper electrical contacts or the ink nozzles. Remove the protective plastic strip (usually pink or orange). Push the cartridges firmly into their color-coded slots until they click into place. Close the access door.

Pull out the input paper tray. Slide the paper width guides to their outermost positions. Load a stack of clean, uncurled plain white A4 or letter-sized paper into the tray. Push the width guides in until they rest lightly against the edges of the paper. Push the tray back in. The printer will likely print an alignment page. Follow the instructions on the screen to scan this page and finalize the physical alignment of the printheads.
